Safaricom Sacco

Safaricom Sacco Ltd was founded in May 2001 to serve the common bond Safaricom Ltd Employees. After the opening of the common bond, membership has continued to grow over the years and now stands slightly above 6,800 members. The membership widened to include family members of already present members, employees from related technology companies and also individual membership outside the common bond.

In the 2011, Safaricom Sacco was licenced by SASRA to operate FOSA. The emergence of FOSA has led the Sacco not only to focus on individual memberships but Chama’s, groups, Corporates and Mergers with small Sacco’s. FOSA has boosted the Sacco’s liquidity level through introduction minimum shareholding to members and several unique products which are in line with the current technological trends.

 

GOVERNANCE

The Society is managed by Board Members comprising of 12 members and 3 supervisory Committee. The Sacco has 2 branches, one in Mombasa road and Safaricom Care Center but there are plans to open other branches across the country since membership was opened to the public.

Members are represented in all regions by over 60 champions. The champions are trained on Sacco products and services hence they act as eye of the Sacco in the regions. They also represent members in their regions during AGM and champions Forums.

 

Technology

The Sacco has fully embraced ICT through computerized products and services. All the business processes are automated hence members are able to access FOSA funds, loans and statement at their comfort. Some of the services provided are; VISA branded ATM’s, Mobile banking, online member’s portal, Loan Application through the phones, and many more.

The SACCO also has active social media accounts and a unique website that enables the staff to interact with the members online.

Mr. Robert William Collymore (Bob) has been  Safaricom CEO since November 1, 2010. Mr. Collymore serves as a Governance Director for Africa at Vodafone. Mr. Collymore served as Chief Officer Corporate Affairs at Vodacom Group Limited. Mr. Collymore served as Purchasing Director for UK business of Vodafone.

He has spent most of his career in the telecommunications industry starting with British Telecommunications where he held a number of marketing, purchasing and commercial roles over a 15 year period. From 1994 to 1998, he served as Purchasing Director for Dixons Stores Group, the largest electrical retailer in the UK.

Mr. Collymore served as Global Handset Purchasing Director of Vodafone since 2000 and responsible for its handset business across 26 countries and in 2003, he moved to Japan in the more commercial role of Consumer Marketing Director (Asia). He has been a Non Executive Director of Safaricom Limited since September 5, 2006. He served as Non Executive Director at Vodacom Group (Proprietary) Limited from September 2006 to February 24, 2009. He moved to the United Kingdom in 1974 where he completed his formal education.

  • From the Home Screen, Swipe from bottom to top to access the menu.
  • On the Menu Screen, Locate the settings icon and open it by tapping on it.
  • On the System Settings Menu, Locate Network Connections and open it.
  • On the Network Connections Menu, Locate Mobile Network and open it.
  • On the Mobile Network Menu, Locate APN at the bottom and open it
  • On the APN Settings Menu, Type the name “safaricom” under the Access Point Namethen Tap on Save at the top right corner.

  • Tap connection Name and type in Safaricom mms
  • Scroll to mms APN and Enter safaricom for the mms Access Point Name
  • Scroll to Proxy address and enter 172.022.002.038
  • Tap Proxy Port and type in 8080
  • Scroll to mmsc address and enter in http://mms.gprs.safaricom.com
  • Tap authentication type and select PAP
  • Tap the tick symbol
  • Tap ok when informed that here are no internet settings as we have already entered these.
  • Tap and hold Safaricom Internet and then select activate
  • If you see the word active in blue under Safaricom internet then this has been completed successfully

Blackberry OS 10

  • On the Home Screen, swipe left to right to access the Hub.
  • Tap Text Messages, then tap Menu (3 dots), then Settings.
  • Tap Text Messages, then tap Advanced.

Safaricom Michael Joseph Centre is an area that has been set aside at Safaricom House specifically for Safaricom activities, events and exhibitions.

The Centre comprises four functional areas:

The CSR Space – The Spirit of Sharing
The Art Space – Events and Exhibitions
Technology Space – Evolution
The Telepresence Room

Located on the ground floor of the HQ2 Safaricom Building. The Centre is easily accessible through its own separate entry to the left of the main reception. It is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Centre is closed on all public holidays.

Safaricom, which started as a department of Kenya Posts & Telecommunications Corporation, the former monopoly operator, launched operations in 1993 based on an analogue ETACS network and was upgraded to GSM in 1996 (license awarded in 1999). Safaricom was incorporated on April 1997 as a private limited liability company. It was converted into a public company with limited liability on 16 May, 2002.

In accordance with the Government of Kenya’s policy of divesting its ownership in public enterprises, the Government of Kenya through the Treasury Department, on 28 March 2008 made available to the public 10,000,000,000 of the existing ordinary shares of par value Ksh 0.05 each, of the Company. This represents 25% of the total issued share capital of Safaricom from the Government of Kenya’s shareholding in Safaricom Limited.

As at 31st March 2009 the company has 6.175 million registered users, a customer base of 13.36 million, 8,650 retail outlets countrywide, 51 Paybill partners, 301 3G enabled base stations in Nairobi, Mombassa, Naivasha & Eldoret.

In 2009 it won awards for Best Mobile Money Service; in the GSMA Global Mobile Awards it was the winner in the Best Broadcast Commercial Category for its entry of the M-PESA ‘Send Money Home’ TVC; in the UN World Business and Development Award it was among the 10 private companies recognized globally for their contribution to the achievement of millennium goals through M-PESA; in the Kenyan Banking Awards it was the winner in the product innovation category (M-PESA); and in the Stockholm Challenge, the winner in the Economic development category ( M-PESA).

Safaricom Paybill Number (M-pesa Paybill no.)

Safaricom Paybill Number (M-pesa Paybill no.): M-PESA registered customers can now pay their Safaricom PostPay bills as well as bills for services received from a selected number of M-PESA partners. Existing M-PESA rules apply when paying bills: maximum transaction amount per day is Ksh140,000 and the maximum amount transferable per transaction is Ksh70,000.

Pay your Safaricom PostPay Bill:

  • Safaricom Paybill Number

    Safaricom Paybill Number

    You need to be an M-PESA registered customer

  • Ensure you have sufficient funds in your M-PESA account to cover the amount you are paying
  • Go to M-PESA on your phone Menu
  • Select Payment Services
  • Select PayBill
  • Enter the business number 200200
  • Enter the mobile number or account number you wish to make payment to
  • Enter the amount you wish to pay (between Ksh10 – Ksh70,000)
  • Enter your M-PESA PIN
